That pretty much describes my past 2 weeks, and another 2 weeks to follow. But why suddenly? I was ok, a few weeks ago. The work load was manageable, although still a drudgery. So something must have gone terribly wrong to put me in this situation. Suddenly, the work seems to have doubled and my free time, non-existent.
I can trace all this back to my super-boss in the company quitting. Everyone higher up said that we were losing a great leader and blah. I see our state now, and I wonder how great a leader could he be?
A good leader is one, whose team can work even in his absence. If this is to be a yard stick of any measure at all, then the super-boss (Mr.X) belongs to the bottom of the barrel so far as leadership goes. We were a team of 9 engineers and 2 managers before he left. Now we have been reduced to about 4 engineers! So naturally all the work is now being done by 4 of us… and its killing me. For as long as Mr.X was around he kept the team in one piece, and now the moment he has left, we in shambles… or it can seen the other way round, he saw this coming, so quit before and avoid bearing the brunt of this loss to the group. Either way, he was one smart asshole. It’s sad to see what’s left of the team trying to come to terms with the tornado that’s hit it. The jopb market is hot, and people are getting better jobs like free upgrades to your credit cards, the pay packages in the industry are going up, but here its static. To top it, there is no traveling onsite. That pretty much leaves the team disgusted with the peanuts that u save at the end of the month.
This is something the engineers can figure out in a jiffy, but the management is busy trying to give excuses about how factor are beyond their control, and there is little they can do to alleviate the mess that they find themselves in. Amazing how what starts of as pretension can actually ingrain itself as behaviour. Before it was pretension that things were fine as they were, and the management was doing a great job of it. This is still the attitude now! Even after realizing they are in deep shit!
Why am I still sticking around… well, I dont intend to. I got my plans, lets see how far they go :)
Till then, I get to see the 3 ringed circus the office has become, and I get to play the clown :))
